WineryWorks.com: Long Island AVA Winetrail
New York's maritime colony, Long Island, juts into the
cold green Atlantic with great twin flukes
to the East and its steely head pressured up against the granite of Manhattan Island's bedrock. Surrounded
on all sides by superhighways of ocean and brackish water (the East River, which is not a river at all, the Hudson River, Long Island Sound, the Peconic Bay and the mighty Atlantic Ocean. A green light is aglow in the fog of the Sound, and Jay Gatsby's lost, found, and lost love Daisy is aground, on the terminal moraine and alluvial soil that is Strong Island.
The Point of Fitzgerald's West Egg (Kings Point - at the tip of Great Neck) is much as it was in the Jazz Age. Place the words "Kings Point, New York in the search box, zoom in, and pan up to
the northern tip of the Point where it yields to the Long Island Sound in the north. If you hit the Merchant Marine Academy, keep going north.
The headland to the east, across the water, is Sands Point (Fitzgerald's East Egg).
Way to the south, Owl Eyes T.J. Eckleburg, (John Lennon's Fool on the Hill?)
peered through granny glasses through the Valley of
Ashes where the Old Motor Parkway (Northern Boulevard, Route 25A) cuts its path to New York City.
Watch your speed there ...
It's all clear from billboard heights.
Fiction, yes, but real enough.

Create a personal winetrail: Put the word "winery" or "wineries" in the search box in the lower righthand corner of the
map. Add designated driver (we like to go with T.J. Eckleburg) and you're on your way.
